FAS Russia issued a warning to Apple

FAS Russia issued a warning to Apple to eliminate signs of violations regarding the prohibition to inform buyers of applications in the App Store about alternative payment methods, according to the press service of the department.

The FAS received applications from users of iOS devices and application developers. Applicants note that in some cases it is cheaper to buy a product, for example, an e-book, on the seller's website, and then start reading in the application on an iPhone or iPad by logging in under your account. This is due to the fact that Apple provides a commission from 15% to 30% on each payment in the App Store.

However, device users cannot be informed about the possibility of purchases outside of the App Store. As noted in the FAS, according to the guidelines for reviewing the App Store for developers, it is forbidden to inform users of applications about the availability of alternative methods of payment for goods.

According to the FAS, this ban "has a negative impact on competition" and price increases. The Antitrust Service has issued a warning to Apple to correct the violations by September 30.
