Police arrest suspect for stealing 40,000 euros via phishing

Last Friday, the police arrested a 21-year-old man from Beneden Leeuwen on suspicion of stealing more than 40,000 euros via phishing. The man is said to have killed dozens of victims in recent months, the police said.

The suspect approached his victims on Marktplaats. He also created PostNL shipping labels that victims had to pay. However, the payment link pointed to a phishing site. With the information that victims entered on this phishing site, the suspect was able to access their bank accounts and steal the money.

During the arrest of the 21-year-old suspect in Nieuw-Vennep, various data carriers were seized. The investigation is ongoing and police do not rule out more arrests. Recently, the police also arrested a 30-year-old Amsterdammer on suspicion of stealing more than 400,000 euros through phishing.
