Microsoft paid out $13.6 million in bug bounties last year

Microsoft paid out $13.6 million in bug bounties last year , a slightly lower amount compared to the previous period. The tech company has several bug bounty programs where it rewards researchers for reporting vulnerabilities in products and services.


From July 1, 2020 through June 30, 2021, Microsoft received 1,261 bug reports from 341 security researchers. The total amount paid out was $13.6 million, which equates to an average of nearly $11,000 per bug report. Microsoft's highest reward in the past 12 months was $200,000 for a vulnerability in its Hyper-V virtualization software.


In the period from July 1, 2019 to June 30, 2020, Microsoft paid out $13.7 million. Then 1,226 bug reports came in, submitted by 327 security researchers. Also in this period, $ 200,000 was the highest reward paid out. The average pay was more than 11,000 euros.
