Liège reports large-scale targeted attack on municipal systems

The Belgian city of Liège has become the target of a "large-scale and targeted computer attack", rendering municipal systems partially inaccessible, affecting the provision of services to citizens. The city reports this on its own website and Twitter . Services related to births, funerals and marriages are not available, among other things. Other services have also been affected, but the full overview will be announced at a later date.

All citizens who have agreements with the municipality are urged not to come. A new appointment will be made with them. According to the Belgian radio and television broadcaster RTBF , the attackers are demanding a ransom, which could indicate a ransomware attack. Other Belgian media report that it is not clear whether data has been stolen or whether money is being demanded. Further details about the attack are unknown at this time.
