DoubleVPN domain has been seized By Europol

VPN provider DoubleVPN was taken offline during an international operation led by the National Unit of the Dutch police. According to the authorities, ransomware groups, among others, used DoubleVPN. The service, which advertised on various cybercriminal forums, offered customers anonymity by offering not only single but also double, triple, and even quadruple VPN connections.

The Dutch police and the Public Prosecution Service have used their hacking powers in this investigation to penetrate DoubleVPN's infrastructure, the Public Prosecution Service said. Domains and servers were seized during the operation. DoubleVPN is suspected of being a criminal organization. In addition, the company is suspected of money laundering and complicity or involvement in the criminal offenses that customers committed by using the VPN services.

The Public Prosecution Service states that DoubleVPN was a small VPN provider, but played an important role for cybercriminals. "By taking legal action and breaking into their infrastructure digitally, we make one thing very clear: there is no safe harbor for these types of criminals," said public prosecutor Wieteke Koorn.
