Russsian Hacker Gets 30 Months In Jail For Selling Hacked Accounts & Counterfeit Goods

A 30-year-old Russian hacker has been sentenced to 30 months in prison in the United States for running the cybercrime platform Deer.io. The website, which had been on the air since 2013 and taken offline last year, offered an online shopping platform that allowed cyber criminals to offer a variety of stolen credit card details, accounts and other personal information and services to other cyber criminals.

Cyber criminals could rent a webshop on the platform for just over 9 euros per month. In addition, Deer.io also made it easy to search for stolen credentials or other services. According to the US Department of Justice, about 3,000 online stores were active on the platform, generating a combined turnover of more than $ 17 million.

In the investigation into the platform, the FBI purchased nearly 4,800 compromised accounts containing personal information. This included names, dates of birth and social security numbers of US citizens. The Russian man was arrested in New York City in March last year.
