The Russian Authorities Have Developed a Plan in Case of "Internet Disconnection" From Abroad

Deputy Chairman of the Security Council Dmitry Medvedev assessed the possibility of disconnecting Russia from the global network and assured that the Russian authorities have developed a special action plan for such a case. This was reported by the RIA Novosti news agency.

“The Internet, as you know, appeared at a certain time and, of course, the key rights of governance are in the United States of America. So potentially, if something extraordinary happens, if someone's head is completely blown off, this can happen. Precisely because the keys to this casket are overseas, ”Medvedev said.

Dmitry Medvedev also recalled that threats to disconnect from the SWIFT international settlement system have already sounded towards Russia.

“This is not the Internet in its pure form, it is still such an adjective to banking, but they constantly frighten us with this. We even had to create our own system for the transmission of information, if suddenly this happens, so that we could exchange electronic messages. The same can potentially happen with the Internet, and then we will not have access to the main nodes of this network, ”added the Deputy Chairman of the Security Council.

According to him, Russia has the technical capabilities to ensure the autonomous operation of the Runet. As noted by Medvedev, everything is ready for such a scenario both technologically and at the legislative level, but stressed that "this is not easy and I would really not want it."

The Society for Worldwide Interbank Financial Telecommunications (SWIFT) is an international interbank system for transferring information and making payments. This system allows financial institutions around the world to send and receive information about financial transactions in a secure, standardized and reliable manner.
