Game Developer CD Projekt Red Hit by Ransomware Attack

Game developer CD Projekt Red, known for games such as The Witcher and Cyberpunk 2077, has fallen victim to a ransomware attack. Company data was also stolen during the attack, the game developer said via Twitter. According to the statement , an attacker managed to gain access to the internal network and data from the CD Projekt capital group was stolen.

Various systems were also infected and encrypted with ransomware. CD Projekt Red states that the backups are unaffected and it has already started restoring systems. The attacker threatens to disclose the stolen data unless the company pays an undisclosed ransom amount. This would include game developer's source code as well as financial documents and other company data.

CD Projet Red says it will not pay a ransom nor negotiate with the attacker. The investigation into the attack is still ongoing, but as far as is known no personal data of players has been looted. The local privacy regulator and authorities have since been notified. Further details about the ransomware and how the attacker managed to gain access have not been disclosed.
